A los 2 años de edad Lexi Gibson contrajo VIH de su mamá, ahora sus 25 sus niveles de virus son casi nulos

Lexi Gibson nació en Las Vegas, Estados Unidos y actualmente tiene 25 años de edad.

Desafortunadamente a los 2 años de edad contrajo el VIH que padecía su mamá. Ella murió 3 años después por causa de este virus. Gracias a los avances de la ciencia, esta chica ha podido llevar una vida “normal” y su caso ha inspirado a miles de personas.

La infancia de Lexi fue bastante complicada, ya que en el colegio sus compañeros sabían que padecía VIH, por lo que sufrió discriminación y burlas. Cuando llegó a la adolescencia su padre la abandonó y quedó huérfana hasta que una mujer de 45 años de edad la adoptó.

Los médicos no le daban mucha esperanza de vida a Lexi, pensaban que a lo mucho llegaría a cumplir 13 o 14 años. Su funeral ya había sido planeado por sus familiares. Ella decidió escribir un diario con la intención de conservar sus recuerdos.

Lexi constantemente se deprimía, ella señaló que a veces no sabía si era peor su enfermedad o los efectos que le generaban las medicinas que tenía que consumir, pero el destino le tenía una sorpresa que le ayudaría a mejorar su condición, esto sucedió cuando en la adolescencia fue adoptada. Su nueva madre se encargó de su salud y la sometió a terapias que redujeron el virus del VIH:

Ahora ella tiene 25 años y menciona que se siente de maravilla. Sólo tiene que tomar una pastilla al día. Es feliz al lado de su novio con quien puede tener relaciones sexuales sin protección. Los médicos señalaron que sus niveles de virus apenas son detectables y que no corre el riesgo de contagiar a su novio.

Actualmente el VIH no es una sentencia de muerte, como lo fue en sus inicios. Gracias a los avances de la ciencia las personas que viven con el virus pueden tener una vida normal.
